Partnering on Chinese Pole

Do you like Chinese pole? Do you enjoy partner work? If the answers are yes, then this duo Chinese pole workshop is for you! In this workshop, we will explore the relationship between acrobat, pole, and duo partner.

You will learn tricks and transitions, along with the fundamentals of basing and flying with an emphasis on technique, fun, safety, and connection to the pole and each other.

Prerequisites:
Students should have prior dance pole or Chinese pole experience, be able to confidently climb to the top of the pole twice, and be able to invert from the pole. Basic understanding of slides as well as static positions on the pole is a bonus. Prior experience with partner acrobatics and/or duo trapeze is useful. Attending with a partner is recommended but not required. Students must be comfortable with close contact.

What to Wear:
Please dress in layers that include jeans with leggings underneath. Bring an extra-long sleeve layer and smooth-soled shoes. We suggest ASICS wrestling shoes or Feiyue Martial Arts Shoes.

About the Coaches

Cheya Potter, originally from Seattle, WA, is a professional circus artist with a specialty in Chinese Pole and Hand to Hand. She started her circus journey at the age of twelve in the world of youth circus. By the time she was in high school, Cheya had dived head over heels into her love for circus and eventually found her way to Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour (2015-2017). Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in circus arts, Cheya attended NECCA’s Protrack Program, graduating in 2019. Since graduating, she has performed all over the world and worked with companies including Cirque du Soleil, Circa, and Seven Fingers.

Hailing from St Louis, MO, Oliver Layher is a multidisciplinary circus artist specializing in hand to hand. He began his circus journey at the age of 9, performing hundreds of shows in St. Louis and around the United States. After graduating high school, he continued his circus education at the National Circus School in Montreal, Canada, where he graduated in 2022. He also participated in the International Circus Festival Young Stage in 2022, winning 3 prizes. His performing journey has brought him all over the US, Europe, Australia and even international waters. In addition to his circus artistry, Oliver enjoys playing music and also sings in a choir.
