Intro to Aerial Pole

If you are curious to try aerial pole, and have experience in Chinese or dance pole, this workshop is for you! Aerial pole is a beautiful, challenging, and dynamic apparatus.

In this workshop, we will start by covering a variety of climbs and skills and discuss the similarities and differences between a grounded and aerial pole. We’ll explore how to utilize the unique movement quality of this apparatus by breaking down the techniques needed to spin, swing, and orbit.

Prerequisites:
No aerial pole experience is needed, but participants should have some Chinese or dance pole experience.

What to wear:
Students need to bring layers including a long sleeve shirt and leggings and/or stretchy jeans. Aerial pole combines techniques from Chinese pole and dance pole, so the need for skin coverage varies for each skill and each individual’s personal preferences.

14 & up or by permission of instructor

About the Coach

Sam Wilder is a nonbinary circus performer, instructor, and choreographer based out of Oakland, CA. They delight in bringing meaning to movement and specialize in creating evocative work on Chinese Pole, Aerial Pole, and Fabric.

They spent three years studying at the New England Center for Circus Arts ProTrack Program and graduated in May of 2022. Since returning to the West Coast, Sam has shared their love of circus with students of all ages and levels, choreographed for youth troupes and local professionals, and performed throughout The Bay and beyond.

They specialize in breaking things down into bite size pieces and love that circus teaches that you can do hard things.
