FLYING TRAPEZE CLASSES
DURING COVID-19

Class Format Changes

The following changes to the class format have been made to reduce COVID19 transmission risk.

  • No catching
  • Class duration: 1 hr 15 minutes
  • Class size: 5 students maximum
  • Student age: 16 years and up
  • No drop-in or make-up classes
  • Students will bring their own chalk and chalk containers (chalk is available for purchase for $5 at the NECCA front desk)
  • Students will leave the building when class ends (no stretching) to allow for sanitization and reset for the next class
  • Students will not assist with net setup or breakdown; except to help with pulling the end points into place – see the Registering for flying section for more information
  • No refunds will be provided to students who are asked to leave for not following NECCA safety policies. However, any student who does not come in because they are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or because they have come in contact with a known COVID-19 case within that past 14 days WILL be refunded.

Flying trapeze classes will be offered during quiet times at NECCA when no other classes are scheduled.

Skill Level Requirements

For the safety of the students and staff, students must meet the following requirements to fly at NECCA during the COVID19 pandemic.

  • Coaches must have familiarity with the flyers and confidence in their competence on the board
  • Students must have an unassisted take-off and be able to retrieve lines from flyer in net with noodle

Registration

Every flyer must be registered for class by email to ensure the student meets the skill level requirements. Confirmation on class enrollment will be sent by email from Rachel H. Additional registration details can be found on the Registration Page.

Students may not drop-in nor bring guests due to strict limits on the number of people permitted to occupy the building at one time for everyone’s safety.

Students who register for the first class of the day must be familiar with pulling the net end points into place and feel comfortable consistently coming to class early and assisting with this portion of net setup while wearing a N95 mask. It is requested that students bring a N95 mask, though NECCA will have a limited supply of N95 masks that can be provided. The students will complete this portion of net setup while coaches maintain distance. Coaches will step in to tie off the points.

Class Procedures

Students will wear a mask over the mouth and nose at all times. All out-of-lines students who have not been able to fly regularly at other rigs while NECCA flying has been closed will return to flying in lines until the coaches feel the student is able to safely return to flying out of lines.

  • Wash hands in the lobby before climbing the ladder
  • Climb the ladder and fly
  • Exit the net
  • Receive distanced video feedback from the 2nd coach by the computer (while the 2nd coach is on the ground)
    • Only coaches may touch computer equipment
    • A coach may be on board to serve the bar while flyers are in lines and to pull rises as needed
    • The NECCA video system will not be used while the 2nd coach is on the board
  • After receiving feedback, cross the room near the lobby windows on the studio side to wait in the South East area
  • Wait 6 feet apart from fellow flyers in the South East area until it is time to wash hands in the lobby and climb the ladder

Warming up

Each class will begin with a 10 minute warm up. Each student will be assigned a panel mat for warm up and to use throughout the duration of class. Students are asked to clean their mat before leaving.

Students may not enter the building early to warm up, however students may warm themselves up outside before class while maintaining 6’ between other students.

Equipment Sanitation

Hard-surface flying trapeze equipment will be sanitized between classes including the ladder, board equipment, belts, landing mat, safety line carabiners, and net roll out loops. A fresh bar or bar that has been untouched for at least 1 week will be used for each class. Gauze will not be used on the bar.

For any questions on COVID19 policies and operating procedures for flying trapeze, or for questions regarding registration eligibility, contact rhipszer@necenterforcircusarts.com.
