NexGen: Hoop Diving

with Cirque du Soleil

About this Workshop

What is NexGen? Cirque du Soleil’s talent development program NexGen is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and select talent training centers. The goal is to share expertise and best practices in the field of human performance and provide high calibre training opportunities to emerging talent.

In this partnership workshop with NECCA you’ll do a deep dive into the art of hoop diving. This classic Chinese acrobatic practice has been revived by being featured in many shows around the world. But there are more opportunities for performing than there are trained performers. This workshop is meant to train up athletes with existing tumbling skills to this art form, and is taught by CDS coaches. Candidates who demonstrate potential in the workshop will continue training and be looked at another time as possible candidates to come to CDS training studio in Montreal for a period of weeks to be evaluated for casting, or further training at NECCA.

The workshop schedule will begin the afternoon of Fri, Jan. 13 and run through Sun. afternoon Jan. 22. Coaching will include 2 – 3 hours per day (with no training Mon, Jan. 16 for the holiday). Additional open training opportunities in hoop diving and other skills will be available during non-workshop hours. Workshop classes will be focused at our Cotton Mill location, but will also take place at our Trapezium location on Sundays.
