Playing With Fire: The performer and the dangerous act of physical performance

Playing With Fire: The performer and the dangerous act of physical performance
For circus artists, actors, dancers, … physical theater performers

Identical twins Ronlin and Donlin Foreman took different paths as performers – Ronlin into the anarchic world of the theatrical clown and Donlin into the canons of contemporary dramatic dance. After working with mentors Jacques Lecoq & Carlo Mazzone Clementi, and Martha Graham respectively, both created acclaimed original work of their own, touring internationally and becoming master teachers in their respective fields--Ronlin as director of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and Donlin as Professor of Professional Practice at Barnard College/Columbia University.

They have realized in their performing and teaching an uncanny similarity of intensity and sense of place. In this workshop they offer explorations into the dangerous world of the performer at play.

  • Deepening ones physicality: authentic movement, internal volume/external dimension, range of motion, the image as provocation for qualities of motion, character-based gesture and dramatic action.
  • Aspects of focus and projection: constructive use of tension, support of the mask and the vital relationship of the performer to the surrounding space and the shaping of time.
  • Devising via improvisation.

Daily class from 9:30 am - 4 pm, followed by 2 hours of available individual or group rehearsal time. A performance of final works will take place at 7:30 pm on Friday.
